Today is Spark Media Solutions’ sixth official year in business. If you don’t know, Spark Media Solutions is the brand journalism firm I founded which cropped out of work I had done in media, journalism, and ad agencies. Prior to Spark Media Solutions I was working for Publicis Dialog, a now defunct ad agency, and had started the agency’s new media and custom publishing divisions. I was dissatisfied with the need to have to also sell in other services of the ad agency that had nothing to do with my work, so I decided to leave, consult for a while and then ultimately start my own firm.
We have definitely evolved over the past six years, but today we’re fully entrenched in brand journalism. Some people refer to this as content marketing, a term that I hate, but use begrudgingly for SEO purposes. We’re essentially press for hire. We know how to create lots of good content cost efficiently and we publish it on the blogs of different companies to raise their industry profile and develop influencer relations. Now that interstitial advertising and content is more of a nuisance than something desired, it’s important to just create editorial based content, because as we say, “Content is the currency of social media and search.”
We just want to say thanks to our clients, friends, our fans on Facebook, Twitter, the newsletter, in person, and even the businesses that let us pitch but we didn’t win the business. Thanks to everyone for making this an incredibly successful first six years. We’re looking towards lots more success in 2013 and beyond. Thanks everybody.
